Biography
George Pontikis was born in Athens in 1976.
He first started working and experimenting with clay art in his father' s ceramic studio in the 1980s. During that period he obtained a good understanding of the material's nature, feel and manipulation.
He studied Graphic arts but his unprecedended passion for art in clay drove him to enrich and enhance his practical knowledge and he thus dedicated himself to exclusivey creating with it.
Later on, he attended specialist courses such as ‘Ceramic Sculpture’ and ’Technology of Ceramic Materials’ led by the professors Menander Papadopoylos and Kostas Tarkasis. Other seminars he has attended include ‘Raku’, ‘Reduction’ and ‘Alternative Firings’.
Raku constitutes his principal technique and means of self-expression. His personal studio is located in Aspropyrgos.
